Building a school and providing bicycles to rural areas in Cambodia

How can you help?

Trailblazer believes that “one way to break the cycle of poverty is to give children the opportunity to go to school”, and since its inception in 2004, the foundation has built six schools and two libraries.

In Cambodia, 71% of the population live on less than $3 a day and 90% of those are living in rural areas. The project works in one of the poorest communities in the Siem Reap province. The project is committed to providing a sustainable way to improve health, food, security, education and economic development in the rural areas of Cambodia

INTO Giving is providing £7,500 / $10,000 to fund the building of a new primary school serving over 300 students from 3 neighbouring villages, once the building is completed we pass the school over to the Government who are responsible for ensuring wages of teachers and running costs such as electricity payments.

We aim to start building in February 2018 so that the school will be complete August 2018. As a traditional Cambodian School, the standard Cambodian national curriculum is taught, this covers basic subjects: Khmer language and history, math, writing/reading and English for students in Grade 4 and higher. All teachers are fully trained and certified by the Cambodian Government.

Additionally, because our schools are government schools, they qualify for food support through the United Nations World Food Program thereby addressing food security as an issue within this project too.

Due to the large distances between villages and the lack of schools in the area students have to travel a long way to reach their school, resulting in low attendance and a lot of dropouts. To solve this problem INTO Giving has donated a further £2,150 / $2,750 to provide 100 bicycles to students at the Reul Commune Secondary school. The school will track the academic progress and attendance of the students with bicycles to ensure their correct use.
